Getting snow off the roof.
Original Message   Feb 7, 2011 11:04 pm
Anyone use a single stage (electric maybe?) to get the snow off a roof? I had about 2.5 feet of dense, heavy snow on the roof, and shoveling it seems like a lot of work. Other than writing a check to have someone else do it, I was wondering if a SS would do it easy enough? Never used one, never shopped for one, nada. Can they be useful for this? I'm a fat lazy bastard, and if a tool for the job is available, I am all for it!

I just thought of something.  If you were able to throw a rope up over the roof would you be able to slide the bottom layer of snow loose and let it fall?  If you can cut underneath like a cheese cutter it might break it free and then gravity could finish it.

I'll go outside later and see what setup the guy doing the roof is using. Oh damn he's taken off, well when he comes back I'll see what he's using. The snow up there is real tough right now half ice and half snow.

Well finally our roof is nearly done. The guy who was going to do it kept not showing up. He showed up one time didddled around and did SFA. So another guy came around he has a disability and is nearly deaf I asked what he wanted and he said $200 cash. So he's been up there for a couple of hours the ice in some areas is so thick it will take til spring for it to come off!

The guy will be done n an hour and after watching him do this there is no way I could have done it. An electric shovel would have broken due to all the ice that is up there. It's pretty bad. So I helped this guy out and got a good deal to boot.   As an aside my wife's boss went up and did his own roof and fell off. He's now out of work for an undetermined amount of time.
