I bought that model for my son as a house warming gift in 2005. It is a 1060DLXE. The msrp on the unit was $1749 USD. The gear box is cast aluminum as opposed to cast iron or stamped aluminum and is very robust.Oversized gears with what looked like a bronze main and a steel worm. The box uses a Lube called Benalene grease which I have never seen before in any other machine. The shear pins have no threads or nuts and are held in by cotter pins. The engine is a "Cool Bore" Briggs which is an aluminum bore .They used the exact same engine on all their units rated from 9.5 to 12 horse power that year. I mean the exact engine. One of the longest threads on record concerned itself with that issue and it was proved a certainty as owners and dealers looked at their machines and the spec # were identical. My point is -plenty of power and great reliability.
My son has had no difficulty with his and the power to auger width ratio is as good as ever produced. It also fits between two cars in a standard garage which is a bonus. This is a real Simplicity as opposed to some of the newer units which are built out of the Murray parts bin as Simplicity was bought out by Briggs and Stratton which also owns Murray. It has a mechanical chute control as opposed to the new electric variety found on the new Simplicity/ Deere units which are virtually the same machine.
