Very Frustrating Carburetor Problem
Original Message   Jan 26, 2011 8:36 am

I have an 8/25 Toro older snowblower. The snow blower was left un-used for a few years with gas in the tank. The gas was orange and it stunk like rotten eggs. I flushed the gas tank and fuel hose, cleaned the carb. 2 or 3 times everything works as it should. The engine starts 1st pull it will only run with the choke on.  I tried adjusting the jet at the bottom of the bowl that does not have any affected. Any ideas?

Carb needs to come off, be completely disassembled, every jet, orifice and gallery cleaned with very thin wire, flushed with WD-40 and blown out with compressed air.   Be very careful with the float mechanism when you take it off to get at the float needle and seat.   You don't want to bend the float lever.  Do the above and see what happens.

borat is right! pull the carb and disassemble everything that you can, anything that is metal let sit in carb cleaner overnight.when assembling pay particular attention to the high speed jet. it has orafices in it that are very small and can only be cleaned with small thin wires. also look in the venture of the carb for any small passages that could be restricted. once you have it spotless put it back on and add the best fuel cleaner you can find to the fuel tank. running with the choke partially on is a sure sign of gas restrictions in the carb. continue to use fuel conditioner or cleaner for several tanks of gas it should clean up and start running better.

>>>add the best fuel cleaner you can find to the fuel tank

Recommendations of additives are a waste of time and money.  All that's needed is a cleaning and clean fuel.  The outragious claims of added horsepower, increased RPM's, incredable cleaning are fanticies of the "it works for me" mentality.   Leave the mechanic in the can to the idiots with SFD.

SFD, Sea Foam Disease.  A form of cancer of the mechanics gland in the brain.
