First Oil Change on Yamaha YS928J
Original Message   Jan 24, 2011 9:19 pm

I was asked to post pictures of the first oil change, so here they are:

Oil was a bit dirty, after about 7 hours use, did get a full liter out, so doesn't appear to use any, at this point.

I did not have to take all the covers off, only did to see/show what is under the hood

There are Rubber engine mounts to reduce vibration. Also rubber and foam seals, which kept the inside very clean, and reduce noise. My neighbour can not believe how quite it is.

Oil Drain and Fill Side:

Carb and Muffler Side:

Front Shot:

Just to Remember what it looks like together:

It was nice to see what was under the hood, the workmanship is Outstanding.

I ops manual gives all the Torque settings, for all the Bolts, including cover bolts, so I was able to install everything back to to specs.

I am very impressed with the attention to detail that went into building this unit.

The huge cover makes more sense after seeing heat sink, wires and connections in there.

The engine mount rubber supports a plate and I can see only one of what i think is an engine mount bolt.  How is the engine held up?  Are there 4 rubber mounts?  Is the engine only supported by the mounts or does the engine base touch the tractor base at all?

I have it back together, but from what I seen yesterday there are at least 4 mounts, the engine is supported by the plates and rubber mounts, I can not say 100% that it does not touch the tractor base, but I think it does not. I will look closer next time!

Under the trator base is the pump and drive system for the Hydro Drive, did not take that area apart, will inpect during storage shutdown!

Dealers will probably be getting more in for the next season  Probably have to drive up and get it though.  Check the Yamaha website to find the nearest dealer.

I took the second last one in Saskatchewan, I left one for you

That was two weeks ago, and the dealer in Regina said he had two others guys looking, so it is probably gone.

There were some others in Canada, don't know where though.

The Yamaha Rep did not expect any more coming from Yamaha for this season.

These are great photos, thanks for posting them.

So it looks like the output shaft is not offset like on the earlier generation.

What is in the large retangular box that hangs below the handlebars?  Is that the battery?

Any thoughts on how the design deals with circulating air in the enclosure give the fact that the engine is air cooled?

Do you feel up to taking apart the flywheel clutch thingy so we can see how it all goes together?

Any video yet? Nudge nudge.  Ok, I can guess I can be a bit of a nudge.

My wife already thinks I am nuts taking pictures of it

A video is likely not going to happen, maybe in February, when it warms up.

The Large Box below the Handle Bars is were the Battery is housed.

Air comes in through the Vents above the Muffler, looks like this allows them to warm the air a touch. The muffles exhausts downwards.

It is interesting that they use an air filter, not really required in snow blower applications.

I don't think I will be taking apart the clutch, while it is still under warranty. I will inspect it next time, see if I can work on it without affecting Warranty.

It comes with two years Warranty, so I don't want to get dinged if anything happens that I need service. Which from my experience with Yamaha, is very unlikely!

If the air box is enclosed in a heated or warmed enclosure, an air filter makes sense.
