Buying a GoPro HD Hero Camera for my Snowblower!
Original Message   Jan 13, 2011 10:24 am
Yes, I just ordered one! The lcd bacpac isn't out yet but Amazon has the Helmet HD Hero on sale today for $249.99! That's $50 off!

Trying to figure out the best way to mount it where it will not get covered in blowing snow will be a challenge. Still it should take some awesome videos!

Hey, that's a good price.  I might pull the trigger for one too.

What's the difference between the helmet and motorsport package?

When are you expecting it?  Let us know how it works, especially the elelctronic noise that creates the Jello-Vision look.  I'm don't care for the acid trip look of the video.  I saw a video of the Gopro mounted in a HS1132 mounted close the engine and the video was very wavy.  Maybe a metal box to act as a Faraday cage to shield the camera from the noise would work.

Well I'm getting the Helmet model which has mounts for a helment and a band that goes around your head. I will try mounting it onto the dash of the snowblower first. I will run a water test first with that. To do that you fill up a cup of water, get it running full bore and see if it has excessive vibration if so then the strap on the head or a chest mount. Chest mounts cost almost $40 but they are probably the best type of mount for action next to a helmet mount. If you turn your head a lot then you just make for vomit-vision.

You can be sure we will find something that works.

Oh and teh difference between the Motorsports package and the Helmet package is the type of mounts that come with the camera. Lots of mounts for inside and outside of a car. The Helmet one has more headgear oriented mounts.

How about getting a hard hat and mounting it to the top of the hard hat?

It actually comes with a strap so you can wear it on your head.

They also have tons of various mounting kits you can buy including one that uses a rare earth magnet! kinda pricey tho.

But yes you can mount it to a hardhat or a helmet. If you use it on a hard hat don't let OSHA see you.
