Unusual repower, horizontal stacked engines fitted to an MTD

The body is an MTD 26 inch which had an 8.5hp. It was modified to two stacked 5hp's.  Very unusual.  He says a long belt runs from the top to the bottom but not which one or the arrangement.

That model MTD had dual auger belts driven by pulleys on the crankshaft.  It also had a pulley off the cam PTO which drove the wheels, so three belts.  He must have more than one belt but does not say which, drive or auger is the long one but probably the auger belts were modified to one long one.

The thing seems to be throwing ok but does not seem like any advantage over what the original 8.5hp would do.

Have no idea why you would want to spend the time, money, and effort to make a mod like that.

On a different subject. Do you have trouble getting the "insert link" to work?  I've tried a number of times and it never works. I'm on a MAC using Firefox.

Cause it was fun. Need there be another reason?

jrtrebor, insert link did not work for me. ??

I doubt the repower was a practical thing as opposed to putzing around.  I give him high grades for getting it to work.

Oh I agree, didn't mean to sound critical.  It's one of those, I have an idea let's see if I can do it, things.  I can certainly identify with that type of thinking.  It looks pretty well engineered.
