Why not more exposed auger/rakes?
Original Message   Dec 26, 2010 6:27 pm
Is there a reason, other than possible safety issues, why more auger/rakes are not exposed like these high end models from Honda and Yamaha?  It seems like this may work better in EOD situations or harder packed snow.  I thought this was more common on blowers decades ago?  Or I thought I had seen pictures that would support that memory.

I think these machines are typically used in larger wide open spaces.  I wouldn't want these exposed and moving ends on home owner applications.  A few lapses of steering and it could easily make contact with curbs and make slits in your lawn edging, or worse, grind on concrete.  These machines have a lot of power so can do damage in a hurry.

They do make nice straight walls of snow though.

That sounds plausible on all counts.  I could probably get away using one of these at my cabin with the open space I have but at the house... "no way".
