Honda HS928 Snowblower at Full Throttle or Low Engine Speed
Original Message   Dec 24, 2010 2:17 pm
I noticed that my 2010 Honda HS928WAS can blow snow really well even when the engine speed is at its lowest setting.  The blower seems to adjust its throttle and increase the engine speed as necessary depending on the load condition.  This seems like a really nice option when snowblowing early in the morning and I am sure it is not unique to Honda engines.  Do you guys blow the snow with the engine throttle at its highest setting?

The new honda 928 in my barn is still in storage mode, but if you've purchased a new push lawn mower recently you will discover that most have no throttle, they run at one speed, their highest.  The manufacturers probably have some idea the mowers will krap out soooner from this, but that's not what they say.  They claim that people damage the mowers by running them too slow, and hence they fixed the problem of human intenvention in the complex human endeavor known as ' mowing the lawn', by eliminating you as the 'Decider' of the engine speed.  They also took off the oil drain plug, so my new Lawn Boy push mower has to quite literally be turned-over to dump the oil out for an oil change, really convenient huh ?  They did away with a fuel shutoff as well, so you can't run the gas out without draining the gas tank.  So you need to dump the gas out same-same the oil change.  Allowing all that gas to evaporate in the open air must do wonders for the VOC emissions !   I suspect these are the same people who don't trust us humans to own a gun, which must just horrify the people who took away the throttle so you can't decide how fast the mower should run.  These must be people that probably all have family members who look down the barrel to see if the gun is loaded, you wouldn't trust them with a lawnmower either.

As for me, if the engine is not lugging, and it runs smoothly, the speed and the work being done are usually in sync.

My Honda HRX2172HMA mower that I purchased last year has both a fuel shutoff and an adjustable throttle. Oil change is out through the filler neck like you Lawn Boy though. New_Yorker wrote:
