Ariens Branded Sno-Thro Cab 72408000
Original Message   Dec 19, 2010 10:10 pm

Searched here for info and thread went from 2005-2008. My questions:

  • Will this fit behind the newer "external" lights as on the Deluxe 28?
  • I assume that the ice drill chute control will fit/work since it is not new, right?
  • For CA$151 am I getting premium Ariens product or not much above the subCA$100 more generic units at Lowe's/HD etc?
  • Is snow sticking to the windows an always present problem?
  • Saw it at hd.com for US$139 but no longer, best price where?
  • Any comments from those having used cabs.

Thanks for any tips. (May have to let Santa know about this product and have him put it on my wish list.)

MacGarage:  Not to hi-jack the thread but I have the very same snow cab.  Looking at your pic, you have room to raise the cab a couple inches.

I can raise the cab a bit more but it will not fit through the garage door. It is not a problem...just something I had to get used to.

I put the Ariens cab on my Craftsman/MTD blower.  It is very nice for keeping the snow out of your face, also helps keep the hands a little warmer in subzero temps because there is less windchill.  The snow does stick to the plastic windshield, and after I tapped it off a few times from the inside, I got a nice crack in the plastic where it goes from horizontal to vertical, so not too happy about that - don't think it's very durable in really cold temps.  Overall, I'm happy with the wind protection - no more cold snow on my neck!

Finally these things are back in stock / available to order.  Hope to get my hands on one real soon and be ready for anything for next season.  (The previous sentence now guarantees more big snow storms this winter.)

Seems like more trouble than its worth.  Just follow the Prime Directive (DONT BLOW INTO THE WIND)  and youll be OK.

The theory is good if you have a choice.

I have to move 90% of my snow to the west.  After every serious snow event, we seem to always have a brisk wind out of the west.   If it's 10 below F and the breeze is coming at 15 miles per hours, being inside the snow cab is a cozy place to be.

+1.

I also have to shoot the snow to the west, where the wind always comes from, or so it seems.  Otherwise, I'd violate the other Directive; "do not throw snow onto thy neighbour's lawn or driveway".

The best part of having the cab will be not having to zip up every single jacket or pant pocket or risk filling them with blow-back snow.  My face and eyes will also thank me.

P.S.  Thanks for all the replies and especially the nice pics.

It won't be as heavily constructed as the old orange colored Arien's cabs.  I saw one of the older one at a yard sale and it was really solid.  It was for sale cheap but wouldn't work with my newer blower.  The plus for the newer cabs is that you have more visibility...and anything beats being turned into a snowman.

Got my boxed Ariens sno-thro cab kit yesterday and started putting it together in the living room while watching hockey. It is made by Classic Accessories and seems very decent. (It even has two salt / beer holders inside.) One question I have for anyone that knows or may have installed one on a Deluxe 28 or similar, prior to me possibly guessing wrong and wasting time, is do I mount the thing "high" or "low" as in the first picture below?  That is this evening's project once I drive home through the current storm and first finish the driveway....thanks!

OK, no answers so far, so here is some info for future search-engine result seekers of the same question with regards to the Ariens Deluxe 28; ignore the sno-cab manual's two options, you will have to mount the brackets even higher to make clearance for the chute's ice-auger rotation - i.e. higher than in the below photo.  The brackets have to be mounted on the "45 degree" sections of the tubes, just below the console shroud, as high as you can go.  The thing is huge, garage door height clearance is solved for me by tilting the Ariens backwards as I pass under the door, no probs.  The beer holders are great!
