Where To Purchase Benalene Grease?
Original Message   Dec 2, 2010 12:50 pm
My Simplicity 924E requires Benalene grease. I have been unable to locate this product in any of the local automotive parts stores. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to find Benalene grease? I live in the suburbs north of Chicago. Thanks for your help.

I have a Simplicity that calls for very hard to find Benalene. Since the gear box isn't leaking, there's no need to worry about changing it.   Benalene is very expensive by the way.

Here's some helpful info. from a John Deere (made by Simplicity) site:

Checking Gearbox Lubricant

Auger gearbox has been lubricated at factory and SHOULD NOT require additional lubrication.

If for some reason the lubricant should leak out, or if the auger gearbox has been serviced; check lubricant.

1. Remove check plug (A).

2. If you cannot see grease, use a wire or plastic tie strap to check for grease.

· If you can see grease on wire or tie strap, do not add grease.

3. If necessary, add John Deere High Temperature EP Grease 100 gr (3-1/2 oz) maximum when gearbox is empty or an equivalent, such as:

· Benalene No. 372

· Shell Darina 1

· Mobiltem 78

· Texaco Thermatex EP1

4. Install check plug.

i believe john deer has this grease in a tube and they use it for greasing combine picker heads. you can also use the grease they use to lube the front sprocket on chain saw bars.that's what i use in my 24 yr old ariens 8 hp. this grease i beleave is clay base and really sticks on the gears without running out all the worn seals too bad.

Have an AMSOIL equivalent check done.  Synthetics always do a better job.

My Simplicity uses the same stuff and I too cannot find it.  However, as per instructions, there's no need to change/replace the lubricant unless it's leaking.   Accordingly, I gave up the search.  I also read that Benalene is ridiculously expensive.
