Anyone make their chute motorized??? To turn left and right....
Original Message   Nov 27, 2010 4:56 pm
I saw a video of this once in youtube I think. A guy bought a cordless drill and attached ot the the auger handle. This let him control the auger left/right from a switch!

Assume you mean chute control.   The auger is the rotating pieces inside the intake housing.

Need some help. I'm told I need a dpdt switch to make the drill go forward and reverse. I found a switch in my basement, but I think it's the wrong kind, as it has 8 prongs on it and it super heavy duty.

Can anyone help? Also, this drill is variable speed, meaning the more you pres the trigger, the faster it goes. When I have the swtiched hooked up, I hope it just goes one speed, the fastest. Not sure how it will work?

DPDT switch should have 6 pins.  You should also get one that auto returns to center.
I believe the proper way to hook it up would be run the center 2 terminals to the motor, run the power source to one of the ends, then run jumpers making an X across the 4 corners.
This should hook the motor up to the center, the power to one side, and the power with reverse polarity to the other side.

Fuses between the power and the switch would be a good idea too.

I believe the variable speed in the drill is controlled by a resistor in the old switch, so using a new switch would eliminate that.

Just make sure you get a DPDT monentary contact switch with a center off position.   These are readily available at Radio Shack for a few dollars.

Carlb & Shryp are right, you need a switch that automatically returns to the center or off position. When you use the switch, one side will rotate the motor in one direction and the other side will reverse the rotation.
Here is a little wiring diagram to help.(the black boxes are the switch terminals)

Thanks, this looks like the one:

Now, see the trigger in the middle, where the red and black wires go into? I'm assuming I'm elimunating that? But, if you look at the end of that trigger, blue and yellow wires come out, and go to what's called a "cooling plate" that spiked thing in the back. I'm assuming that will be eliminated to?
