I'm looking into picking up one of these older Toro single stage snowblowers.  I believe both of these models have the Suzuki 2 stroke engine.  Other than that, I don't know much about them.  Can anyone fill me in on their differences?  Also, what kind of issues are these machines are known for and how to look for signs of problems. 

 

CCR3000 1997-1999 Suzuki 5hp

CCR2000 1987-1996 Suzuki 4.5hp

 

Both engines use the same crank, piston and the same roller bearings on the crank.

Both carbs use the same nozzle and main jet.  Both have the same muffler.  I figured the muffler or jets would be different but match so I don’t know where the .5hp is coming from.

 

Same: Main housing, chute, scraper bar, wheels, chute crank arrangement, auger shaft, rotor blade. 

 

Upper shroud look the same on both but have different part number which may just be an assembly change rather than a part change.

 

No issues that I am aware of in either model but I’ve never had a 3000.  I’ve had about 6 2000’s and never had any problem with them other than cracked cases or gummed up carbs.  Never saw one with a weak engine.  Never had to replace an auger.   I currently have two in fine shape and just picked up a Toro 2450 for comparison.  The 2450 is 3-4 years old and has been started a few times but never used in snow so full compression and augers.   The impeller on the 2450 is much different than on the 2 & 3000 but I don’t know what difference it will make in throughput or distance. 

Thanks for the information, Trouts.  I see CCR2000 everywhere, but for some reasons, the CCR3000 is very rare.  Doesn't make any sense since the CCR3000 is a newer model.

Seems like the Toro 2450 and 3650 follows the same convention as the CCR2000 / 3000.  Virtually identical machines with the elusive .5 hp difference.

I've never seen CCR3000. Very rare around eastern MA. also. There's almost like a small cult following for the CCR2000 and much bigger following for the older Toro mowers with the Suzuki OHV engines.

I'll be on a look out for a CCR3000. 

It seems there's a cult following on OPE equipment with reliable/powerful engines pre-EPA , pre-CARB era.  *SIGH*

I just scored a decent 1995 CCR2000E that was on the side of the road waiting for the trash man. Scooped it up yesterday and am already getting it cleaned up. It looks like it was left outside for a bit but it runs and has a new scrapper blade and the impeller blades still have a plenty of meat left on them. I through some fresh fuel and Seafoam in their yesterday and it was doing a good job of clearing out the carbon. I had to stop as it was getting too late to keep her running and it's still a little too early this morning to fire it up again. Off to get some replacement nuts and bolts a new spark plug and maybe a fuel filter if I can find the right one. Free is a good thing!

I own a Suzuki powered CCR3000 that is 5 HP.  I bought it 3 years ago, for only $40, in like new condition, from a church (who decided to use a contractor instead).  I can't answer your question about the differences (since I never owned a CCR2000).  I can vouch for how stout the CCR3000 is. I have handled snow up to 13", here in Michigan with ease. It also goes through the end of drive build up that with a little effort.

When I saw how well the CCR3000 worked, I sold both my single stage snapper snowblower and my Gravely with the "snow cannon" attachment.  One was too light duty, one was overkill and too heavy.  Now my wife can clear the driveway and hang the CCR3000 on the storage hook. Keep you eyes out for craigslist and ebay.  Spring and summer are the best times to look (when no one is thinking snowblowers - and folks tend to move and sell their mowers and snowblowers).

I think I'll have to be patient to score a good CCR3000 for cheap.  There's a lot of CCR2000, only 1 CCR3000, prices ranging from $300 up to $450!  Geez!  These $400 units are usually sold by fix them up mechanics touting Suzuki engines.  :)  At that price, I'd rather have a brand new Toro 221QR, Suzuki or not.
