Ariens ST724 932022 Discharge chute problem
Original Message   Oct 28, 2010 6:30 pm
I inherited this sno-thrower a few years ago and trying to get it prepped for the upcoming Michigan winter.

Does anyone have a similar model? The version I have has the control that goes through the handlebar.
I need pictures of the discharge chute where it interfaces with the auger housing. I want to see what it looks like
to order the parts based on the schematic.  The schematic itself doesn't really show me what I need.

The problem is it's not connected to the housing. It's just sitting there and moves around so I don't get a good connection.

Thank you for any help.

Justin

The exploded view for your model covers several models.  Some of the models have a chute crank worm at the base of the chute.  The others are like yours which have the crank going through the forward part of the dash to the back of the chute up high.  These models use many similar parts in many places but where there are differences (like the chute area) the parts specific to your model will have a (22) following the part callout.

The base for your model does not have the usual clampdowns to keep the chute connected to the upper part of the intake outlet.  The chute base just fits over the intake outlet and somewhat loose so it can be turned.  Nothing clamps it down but there many be a hook like catch (No specific part number for the catch if there.  It's part of the bucket).  Three quarters of the way up the back of the chute there is a connector screwed into the back.  That gets connected to a piece of flat stock which also gets bolted to the engine head.   The flatstock piece is what keeps the chute in place along with the fairly loose fit of the chute to the housing outlet.   The other parts listed there like the saw tooth ring show in the exploded view are not for your machine.  They have other bracketed (xx) numbers to indicate which model they go with.

Awesome, thank you Trouts.  It just seemed like there was supposed to be something there.  I'll check the area 3/4 up the chute to see if I have the attachment there.

Thanks again.
