Using equivalents for Ariens bearing replacements? Original Message Sep 19, 2010 12:39 pm
Hi. I am rebuilding an Ariens ST824, Mod. 924050 S/N 074421 and I wonder if there is a need to use OEM bearing replacements or should any reputable name brand be just as good? The prices can be 3-4 or 5 times more for the OEM. What's your experience with bearings?

Ariens doesn't make any bearings, They buy standard sizes and types from diffrent bids (and resell for a profit)..... You should be able to take your handfull of bearings to the local industrial Hose / Chain /belt/ bearing dealer and they can match the EXACT maker and model.. for quite a discount... IT's amazing what you can get there (pullys and chain sprockets too)

Besides the obvious ID and OD dimensions, look for specifications on the lubrication. They should be matched to the rotational shaft speed and the operating temperature of your snowblower. In this case, it's slow and cold.
