Just pulled the trigger on an Ariens Platinum Deluxe 24
Original Message   Aug 17, 2010 10:16 am
I had posted last week about wanting a unit with tracks because of the 'cool' factor - but I decided to save myself a couple hundred bucks and maybe some frustration when maneuvering the unit around my shed and get a wheeled model. My decision basically came down to the Toro or Ariens units that were $1299 from Home Depot. Mainly I just went with Ariens because I liked the steel chute, the handwarmers sounded nice, and it seemed like most people online who owned Ariens snow blowers loved them. I hope I made the right decision. I do see another recent post with someone talking about how the model I just ordered is hard to maneuver, I hope thats not really the case. Im a big guy (300lbs) so I would think I shouldnt have a problem moving this unit around. Also, for anyone else who may be considering buying a snowblower from Home Depot - I was able to use their Bath Section coupon code on the snowblower and get $120 off... apparently their site doesnt actually check that what you're buying is a bath product!

Snowblowers output a "shower" of snow, I don't see the problem...

Does what you have use a real differential or pin drive things in the axles?

Haven't seen that model at HD yet and don't know what the "automatic traction control" means this year.

It has real differential -- I got it in this past Saturday and Im really happy with my purchase (of course -- can't test it yet but I had to play with it a little to make sure everything worked!).  The machine starts on the first pull (havent tried the electric start -- honestly dont see a need for it), runs sweet, feels incredibly solid, and when you want to make a turn you just make it -- the differential is seamless.
