Transmission won't disengage

I own an Craftsman LT 2000 lawn tractor with an automatic transmission. The mower drives fine with none of the problems discussed above but when i try to disengage the transmission so I can push it around the wheels stay locked. I took off the seat and the battery holder so I could see the problem better and then sucked up some of the caked grass in case something was catching but still nothing. Watching it when I try to disengage the transmission it looks like nothing is happening. Does anyone know how to trace the problem and what to do.

Hey there..i just had the same problem with my snowblower today..i took the bottom shield off to expose the transmission and friction wheel..all i had to do was lubricate the drive shaft ends and the gears, MAKE SURE TO NOT GET ANY LUBRICANT ON THE FRICTION WHEEL ASSEMBLY AS THAT WOULD NOT GRIP VERY WELL...i just slowly worked it back and forth and now it rolls without having it running...My snowblower is 6 years old and this is the first time ive done this..probably a good idea to do this more frequently..it only took about 20 minutes to complete..try that..Good Luck
