Craftsman Stalls When Clutch Released
Original Message   May 30, 2010 12:16 am
Sears, Craftsman, 18Hp, 42" Mower, 5 Speed Transaxle
Model #944.605090
Engine Model #422707 Type #1529-01

Was running fine earlier.  Starts okay with clutch in but, when clutch is let out engine stalls.  Need to mow the lawn when the snow melts, ya it snowed here last night!  End of May?
Will be checking safety switch tomorrow, don't think that is the problem though, could be wrong.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Is it stalling like it has been "Turned off" or is it stalling like it "Can't turn"  the belts that drive everything.?

Still raining and haven't gone out yet, maybe tomorrow.  Not sure if it is stalling or jamming?  Seems more of a stall than something locking up.

Barring a lockup. I had a snow blower that would start and run fine until a load was placed on it. It would die almost immediately. The problem was a bunch a garbage in the bottom of the float bowl in the main jet. Once everything was cleaned out, it ran fine.

Got it figured out today!  Quite a build up of junk at the Hydro pulley and a weak battery.  Now have to weld up the deck so the drive belt stays on.  Thanks for the support!  Later!!!
