Snow Cab & Chute Crank Handle
Original Message   Feb 28, 2010 5:38 pm
Hi,

I have a 2009 Ariens ST27LE and I put a snow cab on it.  The only problem is the handle for the chute control is located outside the snow cab so when I want to move the chute I have to walk outside of the cab.  Is there anyway to change this?  Can I just purchase an Ariens handle that goes all the way into the cab?  Also, does anyone know the size of shear pins this unit has?

Thanks!

I just saw an ST27LE at a Home Depot and I see what you mean.  The chute crank is located right over the engine.  I'd check with Ariens.  On their website they list a protective cab for this model.

Maybe Ariens accommodated for the chute design by providing a opening in the cab to reach the crank.   I guess you could switch out the 200º 2.5x ice drill manual chute control that came with the ST27LE for a 200º Quick-Turn remote chute control like the one's that come on the Platnium series.  It would likely involve modifications to the dash panel or you could maybe get the right dash panel too.  Sounds like a lot of work and expense though...I'd probably just cut a flap in the cab.

Ariens makes model #7240800 with  these features:

"Fits any Ariens two-stage snowthrower."
"Zip open front fits over crank handles".

As Paul pointed out, this one may work better with the manual ice-drill chute control.
It doesn't show up on a search of Ariens web-site, but it's available at:

I just cut a slit in my Classic Deluxe snow cab to allow it to fit over the chute control rod on my Simplicity. I just melted in some holes on each side of the slit to use similarly to shoe lace holes and run a piece of wire through the holes to keep the slit closed. Real easy fix.
