simplicity 1170e impeller wont turn
Original Message   Feb 16, 2010 8:13 pm
have a simplicity 1170e snowthrower...about 6 years old.  used it last week with no issues.  tried to run it today and the impeller just doesnt seem to want to turn.  engine bogged down badly (almost stalled) when auger engaged, and the belt smoked.  after shutting it down, tried turning impeller by hand (which i have done before).  it would turn maybe 1/8 turn and get locked up.  any thoughts?

Two suspects:
  1. Something is jammed in either the auger or the impeller,use a long handled something to pry it out. Do Not put squishy parts in it;
  2. Ice has frozen the auger/impeller to the housing, melt it in a heated environment or pour hot water onto it till it releases. When you finish using the blower run it for a little bit to clear out any water/slush.
