I see that the coleman powermate portable generators have yamaha,honda and subaru engines.Does that mean those companies also provide the generator portion or how do u find out who makes that part of the generator.The tech dept I guess but I dont trust the co people for a true answer.

Honda doesn't really make "head-end" units (the generator part) even for their own generators. So I think the answer to your question is no.
Having never owned a coleman, I thought the weak part of their generators was the bearing on the head-end unit. My impression was that coleman generators were not intended for extended runs.
Depending on the wattage you need, you might consider a EU2000i which can be purchased for under $1,000 on the web.
Honda generators are worth getting if only for their resale value. I had a Honda 6500W portable generator a few years ago, purchased in 1999 for about $1600. I sold it 8 years later for what I paid for it, and it sold within 2 hours on Craig's list. The EU1000i & EU2000i are popular with boaters and campers and they're almost equal to currency. You won't lose much value if you sell them a few years down the road.
