I use an external tank with my Hondas.

At a 1/4 load they can run up to 15 hours on a gallon of gas so up to 105 hours is doable from a fuel standpoint. I've seen people claim far longer hours on the Yahoo Honda EU2000i forums. Some have 12K+ hours on their generators. I've probably run 36 hours straight on mine a couple times.

As long as you have fuel and oil, you can run them continuously or at least as long as the duration of oil change intervals. Generators are designed to run long. I'd be watching temperatures of the generator end more so than the engine. If the unit can be kept within it's normal operating temperatures, I wouldn't have any concern about long duration runs. I know of large remote diesel generator installations way up in northern Canada that have 75 to 100 gallon engine oil reservoirs that allow them to run for many months at a time. That's why the necessity for such a large (remote) engine oil sump.
