Problem blowing transmission belts
Original Message   Dec 28, 2009 10:46 am
I have a 1989 MTD 8/26 and at the end of last year I blew the transmission belt, I replaced the belt and the tensioner pulley for the transmission. Every thing else appeared to be fine. This year I got about twenty feet without much load on it and it blew it again.  Any ideas. The blower has beenr unning 20 years trouble free.

Bad belt from bad karma would be the most likely thing. Those machines have a very simple and reliable drive. Flip it up on its bucket and open the bottom cover for a look into the tractor section. If something is wrong it should be easy to spot. Set the clutch and tensioner by the manual at the MTD site.
