Ariens 824 Snow Blower Belt install and other questions?
Original Message   Dec 23, 2009 11:20 am
Good Morning!

I have an Ariens 824 snow blower(given to me by my in-laws, wonderful people!:), Model 924050, Serial 047439- Can anyone tell me what the date of Manufacture is, and any other pertinent info? Anyway, I just replaced the snow blower accessory belt (not the tractor drive belt) on the 824 after it ate the old one, and the new one squeaks or squeals when you first engage the auger/impeller clutch, when the auger/impeller is at a total stop, is that normal? Thank you!

Loren

Alternatively, you can contact Ariens directly with your model/serial numbers and they will tell you the date of manufacture and the date of initial sale.  This is what I did and it took a day or two for a response.  Here is Ariens's contact page for convenience: http://www.ariens.com/corporate/ContactUs/Pages/general.aspx

A chirp could be ok but check the auger drive shaft by grabbing the impeller end and trying to shake it. If loose you may have an auger support bearing that is shot.

Ok, I wil check that when i get back home, I am currently out of tow!:) I don't recall it do that with the old belt- Perhaps the new belt needs to be broke in? Also, how do you know if the tensioner for the auger/impeller drive is too loose or too tight?
