Late 70's John Deere 824 snowblower
Original Message   Nov 29, 2009 8:10 pm
I've got an restored 824 that I put an 8hp OHV engine on and will never part with it. Here's my problem, I picked up another one for my step father and restored it (clean, sand, prime and paint, new belts and new 5hp OHV engine). The limited slip rear axle on his thrower is locked up! Even with the tension nut/spacer off of the left wheel we can't get the wheels to counter rotate. Any suggestions would be great.

The gears should just slide onto the shafts and nothing should bind. It is possible to get the gears out of sync but then the gear case would not go back together. When the gears are correctly installed the gear case will just fall together.

I'm going to pull it apart tomorrow and reclean the holes in the gears that slide on the shaft. I think that is where it is binding. I'll post a follow up. Thx
