yardman snowbird snowblower auger problem

I have an older yardman snowbird with a 7hp enging with a auger problem. Its a 2 stage and the engine runs well but the auger wont engge. Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot it?

Turn the chute to the back, engage the clutch, feel if you have any wind coming out of the chute. If you do and the auger blades are not turning it’s a broken gearbox or both auger shear pins are broken. If no wind then the impeller is not being turned. It’s probably a loose belt, broken belt or the belt not being tensioned. Open the belt cover and see if the belt is being tensioned when the auger clutch lever is pressed. The auger clutch engagement cable/rod linkage may have too much slack to tension the belt. Some tensioner pulleys can be adjusted an inch or two to bring them further into the belt.

I did what you said and found the belt was off the pully, thanks so much for the great information.
