Where to order MTD parts in Canada?
Original Message   Nov 9, 2009 9:49 am
Hello

What's the best most economical way/place to order MTD parts in Canada? Is there a Canadian or US online dealer that folks have good experience with?
I may need to order a new bevel gear for the auger gearbox of my 1988 Mastercraft 5/24. When I opened it last year to change the oil, I noticed that there was one tooth missing. Didn't cause a problem last year, but I'm upgrading to an 8 hp and am concerned that the extra torque may spell disaster.

Thanks to all

Have tried going to a scrap dealer?

I was at a scrap yard a few days ago looking for some flat bar. I saw a section of discarded OPE. Lawn mowers mostly but also a couple of snow throwers that looked to be easily rehabilitated. There was an old Toro there the looked like it only needed wheels and a paint job. Check out some scrap yards. MTDs and their derivatives are a very common machines. You might find what you need for a mere couple of dollars.

Do you have the MTD model number off the data plate of the Snow thrower?

Borat,
Not yet, but a good idea. The guy I normally use has a small yard & the stuff goes through pretty fast, so you almost have to be there when it comes in.

Friiy,
Model 318 550 515, s/n 380785 A. I believe the correct part number for the bevel gear is 717-0457B. Seen it on line for around $40, but I'm too cheap to pay that unless I have to.

Thanks guys
