2009 Snow Blower Purchase

I am looking in the 24" to 28" range with 5-8 HP. I have looked at Craftsman, Troy-Bilt, and Cub Cadet.....They all appear to be the same machine with a different color paint. They all have chinese engines, and the linkage from the shift knob to the "transmission" is a external cable (looks prone to mal-function). I have also looked at the 28" toro, which looks great in every way, but the price is scary. Does anyone have any input on the quality of the MTD blowers.

If you live in Canada - this may be of interest to you..
I bought the 24 inch Craftsman with a 13.5 ft-lbs (or about 10 hp) Briggs & Statton 305 cc engine - assembled in the USA. Right now it is available on the Sears.ca website for 1099.99. There is a 10 percent off coupon 941612391that can be applied to cost you less than $1000 (before taxes).
The website is at:
http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B002Q6G6UO/sr=1-1/qid=1254007961/ref=sr_1_1/191-2616191-9166350?ie=UTF8&searsBrand=core&mqnodeid=396784011
This appears to be a Husqvarna built machine with a metal chute (unlike the MTD's with plastic chute).
Good luck!
