PRI-G good for how long?
Original Message   Jan 21, 2005 2:09 am
I bought an 8oz. bottle of PRI's Power Start from Sidell Marine on 9/25/03.  What do you guys think of as far as how long this stuff should last and keep my fuel in good condition?  Is it past date?  It doesn't seem to look like it did new, but it is cold here.  Kept in a garage in the heat of summer and cold of winter.  Hopefully I won't have to throw it out yet.  How about other brands, I know Sta-bil recommends 2 years.  Then pitch it.

Fred:

The one draw back to Stabil is a relatively short shelf life of two years.

PRI definitely has its fans but I am not sure if it does any better than Stabil for gas stabilization.  Others may disagree.

I use PRI based on the reviews from those on this forum in the past.

I was thinking the same thing.  My initial post said if Bobby P were still here you would definitely get his view that PRI and Mr. Funnel are Gods gift to OPE!

I've been using Pri-G for the last two years.  In fact, I use it all year round, not simply when storing OPE for the season.  Back when I investigated this fuel stabilizer, the manufacturer boasted it could actually turn bad fuel into usable fuel again enabling you to start the engine.  I've never tested those claims myself, only that it hasn't let me down and my equipment always starts.

Bullets from their website:

• Engines perform better and last longer
• Engine power increased
• Engine power increased
Fuel efficiency of 8% plus
• Fuel stays fresh months, even years
• Hesitation, knocking, and pinging red

I have to assume that if the fuel stays fresh for years, the product itself sure would too.

I've never seen PRI-G in my travels, but Sabil is everywhere....I don't know about all of you but a bottle of Stabil does'nt last me 2 years...and I definatly don't leave the same gas in my OPE for two years sooooo.....for me the point is moot.

But if I ever come accross PRI-G and if it does'nt cost much more ythan Stabil I'd be willing to give it a try.

Hi...

My unscientific Stabil versus Pri-G experience...

Bought a new Honda mini tiller in the fall... 4-stroke engine...
Usually started with 1 pull and ran great...

Used Stabil in the gas... ran it some...  and it sat thru the winter until spring in unheated shed...
Tller would not run right... carburator replaced under warrenty...
Then was OK...

Year two...
Used Pri-G in the gas... ran it some...  and it sat thru winter until spring in unheated shed...
Started 1st pull and ran fine...

So... Pri-G and Pri-D (for diesel) for me... no more Stabil...

First learned about the PRI products from Bobby P... wish he'd show up here !

Dan, it comes in a qt bottle for about $25 US, makes 512 gallons, comes out to about  5 cents per gallon.

Wow, Thanks guys for all your comments and thoughts.  I miss BobbyP and what he brought to the forum, and he certainly is being thought about now.  It has turned darker, and seems to have some little specs/particles in it.  I'll stay away from Sta-bil.  I have to other brands sitting in the garage beside it.  The kind that Briggs & Stratton makes, and Gumout by Pennzoil.  They all seem to make the engine pop just a little when at idle.

I got turned on to Sea Foam by folks up here in Alaska.

Snowmobile guys swear by it. It really keeps fuel fresh.

My Sportsman 500 had a terrible idle even when it was brand new. Two tanks of fuel later and it was perfect.

It's all I use anymore.
