Can a "normal" (like this) engine be used to repower a snowblower?  I am aware of the carb icing issue, so would remove the air filter and maybe add a box to heat the carb. Everything else looks pretty much the same!

You should be good to go .Don't forget to change the oil to meet the winter temps.

Bolt hole pattern and drive shaft/pulley height are possible variables.   Easy enough to fix the bolt hole pattern on the snow thrower.  If the engine pulley shaft is too low, you can add a spacer.  If it's too high, can't see a fix for that.  Maybe longer belts if everything else fits.
