Torque Spec.
Original Message   Mar 2, 2009 8:44 pm
Hello I have a Toro Powershift 824, Model 38540, SN 5902070 with an 8hp tecumseh HMSK80 155 S386 engine. Does anyone know the torq spec for the bolt that holds the pulley to the engine.  I replaced the belt 2 weeks ago, I did 4 hours of snowblowing and everything was fine. I came out after eating lunch and the augers were't turning. I checked nothing frozen.  I opened the belt cover and the new belt was shredded and the impeller half sheave on the engine has cracked in three places. the cracks are what chewed up the belt.

I went to the local Toro dealer and got the parts, $30.00. I put it back together and the impeller cable breaks at the handle end. Another 30.00 dollars spent. I didn't think I over torqued the half sheave bolt but I guess I must have for the part to break.

Use Loctite 242 and torque the engine pulley to 29 ft-lbs. (39.3 Nm)
