Original Message   Mar 1, 2009 5:16 pm
Hi.My friend has a Toro.I'm not sure of the model. It is a older one.It has 3 foward gears, and in 1st gear it seems to go as fast as my JD in 3rd gear.Is there a way to get it to slow down?I'm going over there later,i will get the model number then. Thanks,Jag

If its got a discomatic drive, then you have to move farther to the outside with the friction disk.  I bent my "drive rod" by hand to adjust the speed on my older Ariens.  You could also try adding some washer/spacers in between where your drive rod comes down and hooks/connects to the friction disk.  The object is to move it farther from the center so there is less RPM.  I could have it backwards, but if you look at the drive you'll understand what I mean.

Sorry NHMatt, as you said, you do have it backwards. To slow it down, you need to move the rubber tired disc towards the center of the driving disc (but you knew that)

Cheers

Dang, I knew it was something like that.  I believe I may have made that mistake, and then corrected it.   WARNING, this will also change the speed of your reverse.  If you have 2 speed reverse I'm sure its no problem but just be carefull before you run over yourself.
