Honda HSM 1590i or Yanmar 1650EX
Original Message   Feb 20, 2009 9:46 pm
Hi and good evening from Germany :)
My name is Daniel, and I have been spending the whole evening on the internet searching for a good quality snow blower/snow thrower that will be able to clear my 2 mile driveway :)) I was very keen on ordering the hybrid Honda snow thrower (HSM 1590i), but unfortunately these units are out of stock in Germany and won't be available till next year. My local dealer offered me a Yanmar 1650EX, which - due to the engine specs and auger size - seems even more powerful than the 1590i. Nonetheless I have never heard of Yanmar before and just wanted to know if anybody in this forum ever had experience with this company. Moreover did anybody ever try a hybrid Honda snow thrower/blower before? Is it just a useless gimmick or indeed very helpful?
I already thank you in advance for helping me decide if I should 1 - either go for the Yanmar, or 2- wait till next year and get myself a Honda.

Cheers,
Daniel

If you have a 2 mile driveway, I'd recommend something with a seat, steering wheel heated cabin, and a sound system.  Unless you want to walk 8 miles to finish the job while getting blasted by snow and wind, get the smallest width snowblower.

OK.  I'm done being a smart alec.  :)

Seriously, with that much driveway, I think a tractor with a snow plow blade or a blower is more suited for the task.   The large Honda HSM1590 is only 90 cm wide and you would need to make 4 passes to clear the driveway width.

Buy an old truck and put a blade on it...  You can make money and pay for it by removing snow from the other homes in the area...

2 miles and 4 passes is a long distance,    what is your time worth?

Good Luck

Friiy

It does not need to be this nice,   in the summer everything snow is on sale....  hahaha
