replacement simplicity light for new model 1524p?
Original Message   Jan 12, 2009 11:31 pm
Anyone know of a good online source? Snapped it off at the mount.
The only one I saw did not have a picture, and they wanted $59 for it.
I will give jb weld a shot first!

autoparts stores and places like Harbor Freight stock automotive work lights.

Can't you make something to use as a mount?  When I put the snow cab on my machine, I had to relocate the light.  I just bent some metal to the geometry I needed, drilled a couple holes and relocated it onto the frame.

By the way, is your machine back up and running?  Last we heard was that you had a pulley or something break.  If it's been repaired, what did they do for a fix?  Did they use the same style press fit piece that broke?

Fully repaired. I slipped on some snow turning around and broke the $60 (!) light though.
I have glued it (ghetto  - yes, but it works!) with a big gob of hi adhesive hot melt glue. The light is oriented vertical now. Works ok, I'm not spending 60 bones for that dang light.

The repair, they replaced it with the same exact part. Hopefully it will last, but ??? I lost a bit of simplicity faith.

And the repair was pretty involved I guess. They said the basically had to rip the entire guts out to get it.

Have you ever used JB Weld?   That stuff is just short of miraculous.  Not sure how it would work with your problem.  You might have to sandwich the broken mount between a couple pieces of suitable material to give it something to bond to.

I can understand losing some faith in a product with a reputation the likes of Simplicity,  particularly in their flagship line.   However, the number of failures relative to the Simplicity brand is fairly low.  If the repair was as involved as you say and was under warranty, I'd say it's a safe bet that the piece they put in will hold up.  It's not like they want to be doing that repair for every five hours of machine operation.   Let us know how it goes.

Chances are they rushed putting it back together without giving it a proper test before leaving the shop.   I'd be on the phone with the dealer to let him know that the machine isn't working correctly.
