Automatic traction control axle system on Ariens Original Message Dec 27, 2008 11:10 am
Can someone explain how this works and exactly what the benefits are? I see where some snow throwers have trigger mechanisms which unlock a wheels drive and allow the machine to turn on a dime and then I see this auto traction system on the Ariens. Thanks for your input.

The automatic traction control is a limited slip differential. Power goes to both wheels all the time but the wheels can turn different amounts like when you're turning. A differential can cause one wheel to spin if that wheel loses traction so the limited slip mechanism detects this and locks the axles together.

Try doing a search on "differential" and "traction control" or even "ariens traction control". There has been lots of discussion about this feature over the years.
