Hour Meters On Ebay
Original Message   Jan 14, 2005 4:32 pm

Any one looking for an hour meter that runs off you spark plug, check Ebay # 4349110750.

The seller has 10 left at  $6.99 each, plus $2.50 shipping.

If you buy more than 1 shipping is 2.50 + 1.50 for each additional.

Ends in 6 hours + !

I bought 2.                                                            Fred

Hey Fred,

What do you think of those SunDec tach/hour meters.  I wanted to add one to my Sears 17hp tractor, and maybe add the tach feature to the snowblower.  I've actually have been curious as to how many hours I put on the tractor each year.  I was made to understand that these Briggs engines are only rated for 500 hours, so I was curious to get an average use time each year.  I was looking at the following auction on Ebay, 4350497075.  Thank you.

    Richie,

I know nothing on Sundec hour meters.

Also where did you get the life of only 500 hours on the engine?

If you are looking at the engine decal, where it shows A, B, or C.

Where c = 250, B = 500, and A =1000.

Those ratings are only saying that the engine will meet EPA standards for that many hours.

My lawn tractor with a twin briggs, 18 Hp has over 900 hours and still going strong!!

I have those Sundec hour meters on my Ariens snowblower and Sears riding mower. That's a good price from eBay. I think I paid $25 each at Sears for mine. On my 11 HP Troy Bilt tiller I have an Airguide meter that I got from Northern Tool. It has numbers on a drum like a car odometer and is a two wire meter that I wired into the ignition. It starts running when the ignition key is on so you have to make sure that the ignition is off when the engine isn't running.

Hi Fred,

When I read the 500 hour rating, I assumed it meant engine life limit.  From that point on the engine can blow or something.  I'm glad you corrected me on this one, thank you.  Even some Honda powered generators, due to many that are designed to work strictly as portable power, I've seen them rated at only 250 hours.  Again, I assumed because of the operating RPM, which is approximately 3,400 Rpm's, this is why it's recommended they get overhauled.  I'm going to have to check my information more carefully.

Jonathan,

Do you have the SunDec tach/hour meter version or strictly the hour meter.  I have the SunDec hour meter also purchased at Sears for about $15.00 on one piece of power equipment and it works great.  Aside from the case color of the one Fred pointed us to on Ebay, again I'm assuming here, it is the same thing only with a different color package.  Glad I purchased one, you can't beat that price.  The only thing I don't like about them is that the batteries are only rated for 5 years.  I don't believe there is any way to replace it.  5 years for a piece of OPE, especially a lawn tractor or snowblower, is nothing. I'd almost like to find a mechanical version that would work on OPE.

Ritchie,

I have just the hour meter version. When I bought them the best price I could find at the time was $25. I think the meter I have on the tiller gets its juice from the tiller battery. Probably doesn't have its own. I have to change the oil on the tiller every 10 hours so the hour meter is very useful. I use the tiller all summer as we succession crop in our market garden.

Fred,

How accurate do find those? I have a tach that operates that way, I use it for testing only, I don't leave it hooked up all the time. It seems fairly accurate?

BTW, thanks for the heads up on those, you're a good man!
