Rerouting chute cranks
Original Message   Nov 23, 2008 8:58 pm

OHV’s are wider than L-heads so replacing an L-head with an OHV requires rerouting the chute crank usually under the OVH.  The lower priced OHV’s around do not have a PTO off the cam and ¾ inch cranks so limits the snowblower bodies they can be mounted on.  Good candidates are older Ariens models in the 10000 series that had 6 and some 7hp’s with single belts and ¾ cranks.  Some these bodies are in such good shape they could easily outlast new lesser maker machines.  Unfortunately their chute cranks ran very close to the heater cover or under and even closer to the engine requiring the chute crank be moved for an OHV.

I’ve been looking around for a source for inexpensive universal joints but have not found any.  Does anyone have any suggestions for rerouting chute cranks or a source for inexpensive universal joints?  So far I scavenged a few from Ariens 932 series machines but they are hard to come by.
