I have a Murray rider mower with a Briggs & Stratton 14.5 OHV engine.  It will not fire and start on its own.  I remove the breather and pour gas in the carb and it starts great and runs long enough to burn that amount of gas.  It has two wires running to the bottom of the bowl so I'm totally unfamiluar with this.  I have removed bowls from conventional carbs and cleaned before but I can't see how to remove this one, nor do I know what to expect if I do.  This was purchased in 1995 and has been maintained properly throughout the years. 

I removed the spark plug to see if I was getting spark .  I did not have a spark although it was hooked to the spark plug wire and engine turning over.  However, it does fire off if I pour gas in the carb--so that confuses me as well.  Maybe I don't know how to check for spark.

The two wires at the bottom of the carb bowl are for the anti-backfire solenoid which when u turn the ingition off  it cuts power to the solenoid (which shuts the fuel off), so u need a multi meter to test if theres voltage at the solenoid when the key is in the on position (fuel is allowed to flow) ur going to need at the very least 10.5-11 volts if not more. its denfintly a fuel problem so l would check the solenoid first and if everything tests ok then make sure fuel is going from the tank to the carb, if ok dismantle the carb and inspect. oh yeah if u have voltage at the solenoid make sure u have a good ground. and when u checked for spark was the plug touching the block while cranking?
