This question has been bugging me and I'm not sure if I could answer it myself if I looked at engine drawings. For a model year of snowblowers with Tecumseh engines just how much difference is there in engines?
Say for the model year 1995 8hp Tecumseh engines were sold on many different maufacturers snowblowers. It seems that an HSK80 or HSSK80 could be seen on an Ariens, Toro, MTD and AYP and those are ordered as my take on quality from top to lower level.
Ariens makes at least two obvious quality and price breaks with their marketing named models like ST824. Within that group there will be various factory numbers which separate the various ST824's but the engines on the models seem the same. So say for that year they sold the ST824 with an HSSK80.
Toro, MTD and AYP also sold 8hp models for the 1995 model year but with different Tecumseh factory numbers. That's understandable as there are some differences in snowblowers like some having lights and requiring a few parts tacked on to accommodate them. Another type difference would be something like MTD which uses three belts on two driving shafts from the motor. The lights and crank end would be different and force a new factory engine number.
The question is are the rest of the parts the same for all 1995 HSSK80 engines? Do the various factory model numbers for HSSK80's all have the same quality of parts other than the obvious difference besides crank end and added feature part differences?
