does your engine have points/condensor, if so l would replace them, if you have weak spark it could cause a flooded plug. also check for intake leak (loose manifold). l would also say spark plug but you already changed it.

mark i had the same exact symptoms with my 8 hp ariens. i installed an easy start plug about a year ago and it has been flooding as you describe ever since. i tore the carb off, double checked the float level, cleaned it up and changed to a non easy start plug,c j 8, jc8 or something like that champion plug. it started easier and no flooding so far but only used it once since . i really don't know if i have the flooding solved but if you figure out what's causing yours to flood  post the results on how you fixed it.later mkd

thks mkd55 ... I tryed today many diffrent plugs {ex rc 17, rc19 , jc8 ect}  with no luck ...I had the machine running to day ,it was running pretty good but  everytime I push the level to ingauge the auger it  would back fire and run really ruff I disengauge the auger and it went back to normal?  I reset the govenor .. Now it will start but only if i set the throttle on slow if i try to raise the r.p.m's  the engine will die on me and the spark plug is wet ????     thks guys

mark! that's the exact way mine was. it would start sometimes with the throttle way low just above the idle.it would also pop and backfire on fast throttle setting while trying to start eventually i would pull the plug dry it out, and if you got lucky it would then fire. hope you find out what it is!! if so let me know. mkdahl@charter.net
