  hello all   i have a john deere 522 snowblower in for service.  his gearbox wormgear is shot.  john deere part number pt11829.  it is no longer available.  does anyone know of a replacement or a cross reference.   thanks

you  are so very correct,discontinued,bummer deal,good news.it was made by simplicity,same thing as simplicity 555.the worm gear part number for simplicity is 1674284,i think they are 62 bucks,hope this helps you out,have a good day,jag.

Just curious.  Is this an old machine?  If so how old and what happened to the worm gear?  No lube or catastrophic failure due damage to the auger drive shaft?  The reason I ask is that my Simplicity has a very robust looking cast iron gear case.  Can't imagine the internals failing for no good reason.

   the engine code puts is about a 1985.  its an aluminum gearbox.  just wear and tear i guess.  its a steel input from impellar shaft, bronze worm gear.  i spose the bushing wore out causing slop.  the entire set of teeth on the worm gear are cupped out.   thanks
