Help! Just Bought New Toro CCR3650 and having trouble starting it .. Ideas?

Just bought a Toro 6.5 HP CCR3650 and I'm having problems starting it. Followed all directions but lots of blue smoke being emitted when it does start. Doesn't seem to have enough power when egaging auger and dies almost immediately. Mixed 6.4 oz Stihl oil with 2 gallons gas. Seems like it should be easier to start and use...any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a CCR3650 too, bought it new last year and have some recent experience. Firstly, I am looking at a bottle of Stihl mix and it says 2.6 oz per gal, so your mix is a little heavy on oil - this may explain the blue smoke and your hard starting. I found mine to start easy enough - once I figured out that I had the swicth in the off position. As to more blue smoke and lack of power, you may have your choke lever in the "ON" position - that too was a learning curve for me as the lever was not up on the handle like a mower and in my case, it was dark outside too! Once I got the engine going, I let it warm-up a little and boy was I impressed with this snowthrower's ability to handle a load - full width and about 6-8 inches deep. The CCR3650 is one very well designed machine. Don't give-up, let us know how you make out. Oh, before forget, I also used Stihl oil, but won't this year. You need to use NMMA certified TCW3-certfied 2 cycle oil. This oil I believe is an ashless oil and (someone please correct me on this), the Stihl oil is a low ash oil. The difference as I understand it is that the low ash is need in higher performance 2 cycle engines and given the lower operating temperature of your Toro engine (nearly identical to the Lawnboy Duraforce engines), the ash is not required and would only serve to foul your spark plug over time. Is it a big deal, for the amount of hours I put on my snow blower, I doubt it - BUT, since I paid good $$$ for the thing, the next gallon of 2 cycle mix will be with Lawnboy 2 cycle oil, which I am to understand IS the TCW3 oil. Good luck, Bill

Thanks. Got it started and just as you said...Did a great job while it was running. Cleaned right down to the pavement and threw snow a good 15-20 feet. However, once it stopped I could not get it restarted, either using the electic start or using the manual pull start. Very stong gas odor leads me to believe its flooded. Is there anyway to determine if its out of or low on gas, I can't see to the bottom of the tank? Thanks again for your response.

Hi Guys! Trescher- I think you will find the mix should be 2.6oz./gallon. At 6.4 for 2 gallons you are way too oily. I'm thinking the excess oil is fouling your plug. Drain your fuel tank, replace the spark plug which is probably fouled and start with fresh mixed fuel at 2.6 OZ./gallon. My local ope dealer also says to use high test in 2 strokes. I have been following his directions as to high test and have had no problems with any of my 2 stroke equiptment. Also make sure the choke lever is in the run position and that the choke plate it controls is connected to the lever. Once in a great while the linkage on the choke may be disconnected and the engine remains choked regardless of the lever position. This is a rare occurence. I'm thinking it's the fuel mix, Marc
