Tecumseh in financial trouble?
Original Message   Dec 8, 2007 4:01 pm
Is tecumseh on the skids?
I went shopping for a replacement short block/ engine, and one OPE store was saying he expects Tecumseh to fold up it's tent soon? I heard that they were also bought out by someone else.
I suppose I could google it, but wonder if anyone here has input. I liked the new simplicity blower and bought it instead (*B&S engine!).

I was speaking to a Cub Cadet dealer who had made reference to Tecumseh being on shaky ground back in September.  I told him that I'd be staying away from snow throwers with Tec engines (which covered everything in his shop).  His response to that  was that Cub Cadet would be assuming Tecumseh's engine manufacturing sector.   Not sure if he was trying to make up for his leaking the potential Tecumseh failure or if in fact Cub will be taking up the reigns.  By the way, I thought that MTD had bought out Cub Cadet?

My understanding is that Tecumseh sold its Fasco division to a financial holding. Perhaps they needed to raise cash but there are many reasons for a corporation to do this other than imminent demise, it may be a false alarm.

By the looks of the information provided, it would appear that Tecumseh might see an infusion of cash and maybe some re-assessment and re-organization of their plant(s).  Either way, let's hope they not only survive but flourish.  Competition is good.
