I see some kind of grid inside the chute, is it for cutting the snow before it goes out? I'm not 100% sure but I think so. I noticed that all the large snowblowers used for clearing roads have these blades, or grid, in the chute. I figure it helps distribute the snow more evenly when blowing it into trucks. It could also be a safety precaution to prevent the throwing of large objects. The auger used by this guy came from a tractor attachment which probably already had the grid from factory. I have also seen a few standard snowblowers using such a device but instead of blades it was just a "prison bars" type of thing. I'm not sure it's a good idea to use the grid on standard snowblowers, seems to me wet snow could jam the chute. Not a problem with a big-block V8 though, the air pressure created by the impeller could probably blow a cannonball through the chute!
