Snow Blower Stalls

I have a Craftsman 10hp snowblower, model 536.886331
I've rebuilt the carb, changed the spark plug, tightened the belts, and the machine still stalls the moment it encounters snow. If I take a small path of the snow it will 'throw' the snow about 4 feet. The engine is running at 3200 rpms with no load. I've adjusted the high speed screw to be richer, but it still stalls the same. The governor seems to be working, as I can push on the throttle control bracket when at full throttle and I can feel the governor push back against me. I've seen other posts say that the muffler can get carbonized and blocked, robbing power especially under load. Could this be the issue? Is there any problem to taking off the muffler to see how it runs? other than going deaf

Hi, If it is aTec engine, RPM's should be set to 3600!! That will, I hope make a big difference!! Fred

So what needs to be adjusted to up the RPM's? is it making an adjustment on the governor arm connection? There is a small black screw that adds pressure to the throttle control bracket increasing rpm, but i don't think I can get 400 more out of that. I couldn't find in the manual what the rpm factory setting was.

There is a stop screw that can be adjusted, it does not take much to raise the RPM's . Get the engine running at max Rpm, then adjust , checking with a Tach!! Try it! Fred

yes u can run the engine with muffler off it wont hurt anything it should have plenty of power at 3000 rpm l personelly wouldn't run it at 3600 thats a max, u could try closing the choke up some when under load if better diffently lean try re-adusting carb adjust idle control (low speed) first start 1turn out then adjust high speed 1.5 turns out increase rpm to adjust also check and make sure intake bolts are tight

2 cycle engines clog mufflers, 4 cycles do not. check your compression - I bet its low due to a bad head gasket or valve clearance prob......... DI
