Ariens weight kit
Original Message   Mar 23, 2007 9:26 am
Does anyone know the weight of the Ariens weight kit? I'd like to rig one up on my own.

Jonathon,
My weight bar that came with my Husky 927 blower weighs 7.5 Lbs.

It's steel and measures 21 long, 2.5 wide, and .5 thick, all in inches!!

I think about 10 pounds would be max!!

You can make your own.

Go to Lowes or HD, buy a piece of bar steel 2 to 3 inches wide, 4 foot long, cut in half,
Clamp together, drill holes to match your blower housing.

Paint and install, cost about $15.00.

The Ariens part is 22 3/8 inches  long, 4 1/2 inches wide, 5/8 inches thick and weighs 10lbs.  I believe that Ariens instructions for the weight kit says that two weight kits can be attached.   The reason for this is because they only make one weight kit.  So I assume that one kit would be appropriate for their compact snowblowers,  while two kits may be right for their larger machines.

I have an Ariens weight kit. You can buy it separately or one comes with the Snow Cab kit. The Weight is not cheap. The mounting bolts are long enough to easily hold 2 weights at 10 pounds each. I find the 10 pound weight to be helpful but I toss a bag of cat litter on top of my snow chute if there is heavy ice (2 inches) under the snow.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll try to get something set up for next season. I'm ready for the snow to disappear so we can get crops in for our market garden. Sugar Snap peas first on the list.
