Hi, I have an Ariens snow thrower that starts fine. Engine seems to run fine but the snow thrower is not able to throw snow out of the shoot very far. Max 1 feet. The Auger blades are spinning so that snow is being collected. The impeller/fan is also spinning (I think that's what it's called) but the snow is not being tossed out of the shoot very far.
The make is Ariens Model is 922008 Engine Make is a Tecsumshe Engine Model is HS50 67008
Any suggestions as to where to start looking? Thanks.

In Search on this page, type in "Belt Adjustment"!! I think you will find your answer to your problem!! Fred

I agree with Fred that this is probably a belt adjustment issue for the auger/impeller/brake. If you have the manual for the machine, this should tell you how to do the adjustment. If you don't have the manual, go to the Ariensd web site and click on Customer Service. Then click on Order Service Manuals. Hopefully they will have the one you need.

Thanks everyone. I contacted Ariens support and they said that there's no belt adjustments for this model and that the manual is not downloadable as the unit is fairly old. They were however kind enough to provide me with 2 scanned pages with instructions on how to access and remove the belt. Everybody's advise was on the ball as I discovered that the belt was broken but not severed. I guess there was still enough tension in the belt to turn the impeller and auger but not enough to throw the snow very far. I will be picking up a belt tomorrow and will let everyone know the outcome. Hope there's still snow to test the new belt. Warmer weather is melting the snow away. Thanks to all for the excellent advice.

X411, Glad you found your problem!!! You also might want to put Clarence's "Impeller Kit" on your blower. Check it out!! Google "Clarence's impeller kit" for his site!!! Fred

Well, I changed the v-belt today and test the throwing distance. The snow is a little slushy and I only managed to get about 1-2 feet away from the snow thrower. I figured if it was fresh snow I would manage 5-6 feet max. The impeller is definitely spinning faster but I don't think the entire problem has been resolved. Can I grease the shaft that spins the v-belt? What about the idler? (not the part where the belt is) It was cluttered with fiber from the damaged belt. What other components should I lubricate to reduce friction? I also noticed that the gear case that the auger was attached to was vibrating left to right as the auger blades spinning. Comments. I'll check out the impeller kit as suggested. Thanks.
