Chiper/ Shredder
Original Message   Nov 6, 2006 9:59 am
I just bought a used MTD chipper/shredder with  a 5HP B&S engine on it. Seems to work reasonably wll for mulching leaves and small branches. The chipper function is a bit tricky. The wood is presented at an angle to the cutter and starts to form a wedge shaped point. The tip of the point has a tendency to jam the whole thing and stall the engine. It doesn't happen all the time but is a pain when it does.

So far a like the results a lot when it works and just want to see if I can improve my technique so suggestions are of course welcome.

It did come with a service manual but I am searching for more info online and haven't found much yet, B&S doesn't seem to go that far back. If anyone has some good pointers I'd appreciate it.

I'm thinking maybe the rpm is'nt where it should be and thats why it jams.I have a mighy-mac (makissic) machine with a 7 hp and once when it was'nt running right it would jam in the same way.
