Ariens snowthrower shift problem

I have an Ariens snowthrower. I can't get it adjusted so it will roll in neutral. The friction disc is in good shape. Everything seems o.k. It shifts into all forward positions and reverse smoothly. When in the neutral position, with clutch handle released, the friction disc is still in contact with the metal contact plate and it won't roll. Squeezing the clutch handle raises the disc from the contact plate o.k. Tried adjusting the clutch rod also. Am I missing something? Thanks; Jake...

Sorry. No pics. Already sent it back to the guy. He didn't want to spend the money to do the repair. The machine runs fine, just not able to get it into 'neutral' when positioned in the neutral detent. Took some time to find the crack, but once I did I figured out why the motion was so limited when squeezing the clutch handle. The space between the friction wheel and the drive disc is quite small. With the crack in the drive disc housing it's even smaller resulting in no neutral. Jake...
