SEARS CRAFTSMAN 2000 LAWN TRACTOR WITH HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
Original Message   Jul 1, 2006 8:10 pm

We have a 2001 Sears Craftsman 2000 Lawn Tractor with a hydrostatic transmission.  The engine starts, and seems to run fine.  The problem is, the tractor will not go forward or in reverse and the front and back wheels do not or will not turn.  Right before this happened a pop was heard in the engine.  What could be causing this?  Is it repairable?

Thank you for your time, consideration, and cooperation. I hope to hear from you soon,

I have a similar problem.  I engage forward drive and it grinds a worn gear and move forward very slow.   However reverse works fine.  No noise and normal speed.  What can be the problem.   205-026b is the tranny part.  It would cost around $800.00 from Sears.

Why would I have normal reverse and hardly any forward drive?

Please help

Did you look underneath and see if the belt is still on the pulleys? Have you removed any of the rear wheels? Some have a square key on the axle and if this comes out it will not move. Also did you by any chance pull the dump valve handle, you know to push it around so it rolled freely? Check those first and get back to me.

i read that TECUMSEH is aware of their hydro-stat problems on 2000-006a.

its a NEUTRAL LOCK OUT REPAIR KIT #799032.

ITS LOCATED INSIDE OF DIFF.SIDE OF UNIT.

also pump no is.#794788 but is most likely ok....
