Toro Personal Pace issues
Original Message   May 31, 2006 7:56 pm
My Toro Personal Pace 21" 6.5hp is about 5 years old now and has performed great!  Unfortunately, I think age has caught a bit on the drive system.  If I push the handle, the mower moves, but only the right wheel is spinning and it's spinning so fast, it can't get traction---i.e. all the power is directed to that one wheel.  Worse is the fact that I can hear that the left is trying to engage, but it doesn't.  It sounds like marbles in a can.  Aomost like plastic gears are clicking and not catching.  Not a comforting sound.

I take the unit arpart every year and clean and grease it and always wash the unit when I am done cutting.  I know I had it back together correctly because it worked fine at the beginning of the season.

So, any ideas on what might be going on?  Also, where do you folks buy parts from for this unit online?  I know I need a new right rear tire as it's bald now from spinning.

Thanks!
Shumax

ok   try this.  once  you have removed the c-clip, and  washer slide wheel pinion off shaft. once removed you will see a woodruff key, remove this and in the groove there is a SMALL compression spring.  while this is all apart clean very good. clean spring and key. apply some grease or anti-seize and reassemble.  make sure wheel pinion goes on correctly.  they are marked with a L or an R corresponding to which side you are working on as from behind unit.
